The Meeting Immediate Human Needs Community Impact Team has developed an iniative to specifically target the heating concerns of the Mid-Maine community, Keeping Mid-Maine Warm. The heating crisis along with the additional issue of fuel efficiency is one of the most pressing problems we are currently facing as a community.
Keeping Mid-Maine Warm has five strategies to address different aspects of the heating crisis:
Strategy 1: Ensure that people who are between 170% - 200% poverty level, who are in emergency heat crisis have access to emergency heat assistance.
Strategy 2: Ensure that people who are eligible for LIHEAP but are not accessing LIHEAP start access this benefit (through outreach & education).
Strategy 3: Ensure that families in extreme situations have access to emergency heat assistance when needed
Strategy 4: Ensure that LIHEAP recipients with high fuel consumption have their homes weatherized
Strategy 5: Ensure that people are maximizing their fuel efficiency by having their furnaces cleaned.
